The greatest annual stamp show in North America, StampShow 2007 will feature first-day ceremonies for new U.S. and U.N. stamps, 15,000 pages of competitive exhibits and world rarities, 150 dealers from throughout the United States and abroad, two public auctions, and more than 100 meetings and seminars on "the hobby of kings and the king of hobbies." Dime and dollar booths offer fun on a budget, or view the unique Jenny Invert plate block valued at nearly $3 million, courtesy of Mysic Stamp Co. Another special area will guide youth through the basics of the hobby and include free stamps, puzzles, hands-on demonstrations, and games.

John Lennon Educational Tour Bus - Jupiter Hotel                                                              Back toTop

Visitors to the Jupiter Hotel will have a behind-the-scenes look at the indie recording experience when the John Lennon Educational Bus rolls into Portland. Portland Mayor Tom Potter, Multnomah County Commissioner Maria Rojo de Steffey, State Superintendent of Schools Susan Castillo, and the Jupiter Hotel have collaborated to bring this nationally acclaimed musical recording studio on wheels to Portland. “I am proud of the City of Portland and the Jupiter Hotel for hosting such a great opportunity for kids to learn about the music industry – both on-stage and behind the scenes,” said Portland Mayor Tom Potter.” The John Lennon Educational Bus is a non-profit mobile recording and multimedia studio outfitted with the latest technological advances including Apple audio and video solutions, as well as traditional musical instruments. The bus has provided free hands-on programs to young people since 1998 to encourage students to play music, write songs, engineer recording sessions and produce music video projects.

After a background in barbershop quartets, and as a member of a duo, Lightfoot struck out on his own in the early 60s. He had written perhaps 75 songs, when he was caught up in the country music scene and folk revival of the time; Bob Dylan’s music and a song by Merle Travis, Dark As A Dungeon, combined with his sensitivity, inventiveness and beautiful voice, resulted in his unique songwriting and singing style.
